WoW Patch 4.1 Winners and Losers

4.1 Rage Guy

Which classes won and which classes lost in the upcoming patch?  Obviously this is all just my personal opinion, but here goes!

Winners

  • Death Knights.  Asides from some minor nerfs to blood PvP (a gimmicky spec most everybody hates anyway) DKs walk away nicely in this patch.  Frost now has all blood runes permanently turned into death runes.  I haven’t seen any hard numbers, but I can certainly imagine that’s a DPS buff.  Obviously, it’s also a huge PvP buff giving them far more rune flexibility.  Frost Strike will be doing more damage, as will Howling Blast.  Expect Frost to be a flavor of the month PvP spec.  Unholy also had some nice buffs to its primary strikes.  Let’s also not forget battle rez.  Enjoy it while it lasts, Frost DKs won’t stay like this for long.
  • Mages.  I usually don’t QQ on mage PvP, since I think most of the complaints are a bit overblown, but this more or less baffles me.  Frost armor now adds constant 15% damage reduction and also adds mana regen with a glyph.  Damage up slightly thanks to frostbolt buff and Finger of Frost/Icelance buff.  Ice barrier absorbing way more.  The DR on shattered barrier/CoC isn’t that big of a deal to me, it’ll still last long enough for them to get off a deep freeze or to create some space.  Or they can just use the talent points elsewhere.  The QQ is gonna be epic.  Arcane also looked to have gotten a nice DPS buff for PvE.  Arcane might see some facerolling PvP specs as well, but the amount of free casting it requires still makes it a gimmick in my book.
  • Rogues.  Ok, ok, they really didn’t get much.  But subtlety is a pretty insane PvP spec atm, the fact that they dodged nerfs and picked up minor buffs counts as a win in my book.  Fast stealth movement should be fun too, something I think all rogues will enjoy.

Losers

  • Shadow Priests.  A lot.  In the face.  Without question spriests ate the biggest nerf bat.  Removal of defensive dispel on others and shorter duration on PW:S.  Spriests are now more or less Ret Paladins in PvP.  They can minorly support teammates with heals and they can tunnel damage.  Can’t do much else.  Look for Warlocks to replace shadow priests in nearly all comps.  PvE wise, Dark Intent got nerfed from 3% per stack to 1% per stack on the person receiving it.  I think everybody knows a nerf to Dark Intent hits shadow priests the hardest.
  • Paladins.  Ret pallies get their off healing nerfed (which is their only real selling point in PvP) as well as their survivability and holy got close to nothing, despite being the worst PvP healer.  The nerfs here weren’t major, but totally uncalled for.
  • Warriors.  It’s hard to put warriors here as loser for finally getting balanced, but still, they definitely lost.  I don’t think anybody questioned that warrior damage in PvP was stupid high and the nerf to colossus smash should help.  Spell reflect getting a longer cooldown was just salt in the wound however.  They did get some nice stuff in this patch, but the c-smash nerf is pretty huge.

So have at it, do you agree?  Disagree?  Who were your big winners and losers?  Let me know in the comments section.  Tell me just how awful I truly am!
