New Secrets of Faydwer Quests

fenden sof task npc

In a patch that was added about two weeks ago, there is now a new line of quests available from Fenden Helter in Dragonscale Hills.  The tasks come in three types: errands, acts, and combat.

Errands
Errands are non-combat tasks that reward you with faction, experience and 20 Faycetum (more on that later). These quests can usually be completed solo in 5-15 minutes. There are errand tasks available for each faction and have an 18 hour lockout. Unforutnately, all of these quests are linked, so you can only do one errand per 18 hours.

Acts
Acts are non-combat tasks that reward you with experience and 30 Faycetum. There are two of these quests. These also have 18 hour lockouts, but they are not on a shared timer. You can do both every day. These can both be easily soloed.

Combat
Combat tasks require you to kill 10 specific mobs and reward you with faction, experience and 3 Faycetum. These have an 18 hour lockout, but it is not shared. You can do all of these every day. Some of them can be soloed by certain classes, but they are intended for groups.

Faycetum
Faycetum is a new alternate currency. You can purchase various items from Fenden using them. They are no drop. The items Fenden sells are Secrets of Faydwer tier 2 non-visible drops. Most of the items are attunable, but some of them are no-drop. They vary in price from about 900 to 2300 Faycetum. Because these items are mostly droppable and appear else where in the game, there is no buyback feature.

My Experience
Personally, I love this little addition. Although the faction, Faycetum and experience aren’t extreme, they add up to a decent bit of progress for the time spent. Once you’ve got them figured out, the two acts can be done in about 20 minutes total. For your time, you get close to an AA worth of exp and 60 Faycetum. Not too shaby. Add in an errand and you get well over an AA, faction, and 80 Faycetum for roughly 30 minutes of work. Hardly a waste of time for most players.

Most non-raiders will find something to spend their Faycetum on. Even if you can’t find anything you’d use, you could always pick a high demand, attunable item and sell it in the Bazaar. Most of the items go for 200k+ on my server. Not bad for about 7 hours of total work.

The faction part is a bit disappointing to me, but still worthwhile. From what I’ve gathered from other players, if you do a combat task and an errand for the same faction every day, you can get to max ally in about a month. If you do additional combat tasks every day, you could cut a lot of time off. Realistically, if you plan carefully (figuring out which factions you really need the spells from and which factions don’t require max ally) a few months of doing errands and a combat task or two every day will get you what you need. That’s not that great. I’d suggest supplementing these tasks with other quests or kills. Also pay attention to factions that already have easy quests to faction with (Strike Force V comes to mind. Just do the farm cleanup quests) so you don’t waste your daily errands on them.

I wish the faction was greater and the items were better, but overall this is a nice addition to the game.
